History
Kishapu is a peaceful little village located in the
District of Kishapu which is part of the Shinyanga
Region of Tanzania. In pre-colonial and colonial
days up to 1965, Kishapu was the main residence
of the Sukuma Tribal Chiefs. After independence, it
was transformed into an Ujamaa Village but, as
that experiment collapsed, so did the fortunes of
Kishapu. Currently, the Tanzanian government is
attempting to establish a district seat and
revitalize a moribund Primary School and a Medical
Rural clinic built by the British during colonial
times. However, due to limited resources the
government's efforts have been slow and largely
ineffective.
