Kishapu Amka, Kumekucha!
(Kishapu Wake Up. This is a New Day!)
The Kishapu Community Development Center (KCDC) was founded in
2007 as a non-profit California Public Benefit Corporation under IRS
501(C)3. The purposes of KCDC are the promotion of public health,
expansion of occupational skills and education and the provision of
drought assistance in the Kishapu District of Tanzania. Kishapu is a rural
community in Tanzania located about ninety miles south of the city of
Mwanza which is on the shore of Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile.

Kishapu is afflicted by many of the well-known problems of the developing
world: lack of clean water, malaria, HIV, economic and social deprivation.
The goals of KCDC were first established in collaboration with the
villagers of Kishapu.

Our mission is to increase the quality of life and well being of the
community of Kishapu and other rural areas of Tanzania by providing
clean reliable water sources, promoting public health and increasing
occupational opportunities. Sustainable projects and active community
participation are essential to successfully complete our mission.

Using funding provided by the generosity of many contributors, KCDC
completed its first project in July 2008 by providing 100 insecticide treated
mosquito nets to the Kishapu Health Center for distribution to the villagers
in need. We have also worked with local Kishapu leaders to obtain the use
of a tract of land at Kumbayu Farm. Our goal is build a community center
on this site in the coming years. Our projects planned for 2009 will be to
start developing the Kumbayu Farm site and to begin construction of a
well to provide fresh drinking water.

I thank you for visiting the KCDC website and encourage you to inform
your friends and neighbors about our mission. I would like to express
enormous gratitude to all who have encouraged and urged me and our
team to undertake the challenge of assisting the villagers of Kishapu,
Tanzania. If you wish to support our mission, please visit the Donate and
Get Involved sections of our Web site.
